Community Races

The Mt Shasta Race Association helps coordinate community-sponsored races throughout the year. Sponsored by local businesses and service organizations, these events provide the opportunity for all community members to experience the thrill of ski racing. While the specific lineup of races may change year to year, several races have become annual events at the Mt Shasta Ski Park, including the Paul Gianera Memorial Race, the Gene Landsman Super-Slalom, the Coyote Classic and the Over the Hill Race.
Paul Gianera was an outstanding racer and a beloved member of the Mt Shasta racing community. He was a compassionate coach and a mentor to young athletes in the Mt Shasta Ski Team. In honor of his life and the great contributions he made to youth racing, the Mt Shasta Race Association hosts a two-day event each year. The first day is a Giant Slalom for individuals of all ages, while the second day is a competition for business and family teams of 4 or more.

The Gene Landsman Super-Slalom is open to adults 21 years of age and older. A beloved member of the Mt Shasta skiing community, Gene was forever urging us to “ski the bold line”. Started in 2009, this race provides the perfect venue to do just that.

Sponsored by the Fifth Season, the Coyote Classic is a three-day event, including a GS, slalom, and super-G. This race is open to everyone, and athletes may register for any or all of the three events.
For more mature racers (50 years old or more), the Over the Hill Classic provides an opportunity to race with dignity and style. Entry fees for this race go towards the beautification of local communities.
